History

Liana Lodge was founded by Angelika Raimann in 1999 with the vision of creating a sustainable and eco-friendly lodging experience in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon. This initiative was driven by a strong commitment to preserving the unique biodiversity of the rainforest and supporting local indigenous communities. Located on the edge of the Selva Viva protected forest, Liana Lodge features a Main House and the first cabañas, constructed using reclaimed wood from nearby road construction. The lodge is named after the abundant lianas that surround the main house, highlighting its deep connection with the natural environment.

Liana Lodge aims to empower the Kichwa community by creating jobs and generating income. This demonstrates that economic benefits can arise from nature conservation. The lodge provides employment opportunities, helping locals earn a livelihood. It also preserves their cultural heritage and environment.
